2020 Is Jeep’s Year For Plug-Ins and Tech

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Jeep and the Fiat Chrysler Automotive Group are evolving. This year we’re seeing electric vehicles and tons of tech features. This guide covers everything you can expect from the automotive group’s 2020 lineup.

More and more automobile manufacturers are electrifying their lineups. Jeep is no exception. The Fiat Chrysler manufacturer is investing in an electric Wrangler that debuted during January at Las Vegas’s 2020 Consumer Electrics Show. In March of 2019, Jeep previewed some of its electric vehicles (EVs) in Geneva. So, it’s only logical that Jeep now introduces an electric version of its fan-favorite – the Wrangler. Now, all-electric Jeeps will be stamped with a 4xe detail. So, if you’re in the market for a plug-in vehicle, keep an eye out for those bumper details.

Introducing The 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Jeep has committed to rolling out an electric version of each of its models by 2022. You can already find a few hybrid options at Jeep dealerships, but the Wrangler Unlimited is what eco-conscious consumers have been waiting for.

The Wrangler Unlimited has a six-cylinder engine and comes in a four-door option. Its plug-in capacity has also received an upgrade in 2020. The battery power has undergone a redesign, so drivers don’t need to worry about plugging in their Jeep EV as often.

Your Options

Right now, you can only purchase the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited in the four-door option. So, if you’re a fan of smaller vehicles, this may not be the best option for you.

But don’t lose hope. Jeep has announced that more 4xe models are on their way. Later in 2020, consumers can expect to see an electric version of the Jeep Compass and Renegade. This is also great news for anyone on more of a budget. The Compass and Renegade are some of Jeep’s least expensive models. Hopefully, the plug-in options will follow suit.

Jeep has made some impressive claims about the new 2020 rollouts. Last year, at the Geneva International Auto Show, Jeep claimed its 4xe Renegade and Compass would have a 50-kilometer charge range, 1.3-liter gasoline engine, and horsepower between 190 and 240 units. More information will hopefully become available in the next few months. And hey, we hope they’re able to make these claims happen!

Features To Keep An Eye Out For

While plug-ins are exciting, so are high-tech features. The Fiat Chrysler group has shown off its geared-up vehicles at trade shows over the last few months. Some of our favorite features include:

The Airflow Vision Concept

This is a whole new way of thinking for Jeep. The Airflow Vision Concept is all about aerodynamics and sleek design. In models equipped with this feature, you can expect to see wheels tucked into the bodywork and multiple screens in the cabin of the vehicle. The Airflow Vision Concept also allows drivers to customize technology and personalize driving experiences. Apparently, this feature will also allow drivers to share information with other passengers in the vehicle. How’s that for high tech?

The Centoventi Concept By Fiat

This is Fiat’s version of an electric vehicle. And let’s just say, millennials will love it.

The Fiat Concept Centoventi allows drivers to change the color and look of their vehicles electronically. So, if you’re feeling blue, you can make that happen.

Another feature of this concept incorporates social media. When a driver is stopped, they can send electronic signals to a tail display screen that allows the driver to share messages with others on the road. We can’t tell if this is really dangerous or really fun.

The Jeep Virtual Moab

Last but not least, Jeep is providing a vehicle-like experience equipped with virtual reality (VR) technology. People will have the opportunity of climbing inside a wrangler and popping on some VR goggles to see how Jeeps can handle the wildest terrain. Think about how it would be to experience the Hell’s Revenge trail in Moab by Jeep. This system will let you do it.

Whatever you look for in a vehicle, it seems like Jeep and the Fiat Chrysler Automotive Group are working on it. Stay tuned!
