Jeep Grand Cherokee Alternator Bracket Replacement

Sometimes when people are poking around and inspecting their Jeeps, they might notice a crack in the alternator bracket. Doing A Jeep Grand Cherokee alternator bracket replacement is an easy task that you can do yourself. It doesn’t matter if you have a 1998 Jeep Wrangler alternator or are wanting to do a 2000 Jeep Cherokee alternator removal, you will feel a sense of accomplishment after finishing a task like this on your own.

When you finally figure out that you need to do a Jeep Wrangler alternator bracket replacement, all you have to do is order the part, and then get started. The brackets are typically held in place by four 9/16th bolts, so you don’t have to worry about anything super complicated.

  • To get started, you’ll need to loosen the serpentine belt pulley and tightener, which are both 15mm.
  • After the belt is loosened, you’ll have to make your way to the alternator and loosen two of the 15mm bolts that are attaching the alternator onto the bracket and air conditioning. You’ll find a nut on the bolt that is in the air conditioning, so you’ll want to loosen that in order to proceed.
  • Then you’ll have to take out the four 9/16 bolts that are securing the alternator bracket to the motor block. These bolts aren’t too hard to access, but the bolt at the top back area might be a trickier task. To get the top back bolt out, all you have to do is slightly move the alternator to the side.
  • After you’ve gotten all of the bolts out, you can now remove the alternator bracket and then put the new one in place. Ensure that all of the bolts are aligned properly before starting to hand tighten them up.
  • Now you can move on to tightening up the two alternator bolts. Once that’s done, tighten the belt tensioner and then tighten the pulley.

You’re all done! That’s all it takes to do a Jeep Cherokee or Jeep Wrangler alternator bracket replacement.
