The 4×4 allows everyone, from individuals to entire families, to enjoy the outdoors. Just because Toronto is a big city doesn’t mean there isn’t a community of Jeep enthusiasts out and about. Recreational four-wheel driving is the safest of the motorized activities and sports. There are opportunities for anyone with a Jeep in Toronto, including individuals with medical conditions such as musculoskeletal diseases. They can participate in four-wheel driving activities, thanks to all of the possible Jeep modifications for hand controls.
Jeeps in particular are becoming more popular for not only regular driving, but for off-road driving as well. The social aspects of Jeeping are part of what makes owning one a lot of fun.
Clubs
There are many recreational driving clubs in Toronto and surrounding areas. Some clubs are open to anyone interested in Jeeps and 4×4 driving, and some are more ideal for experienced drivers who want to try challenging trails throughout Ontario. A few popular clubs include the Ontario Federation of 4 Wheel Drive (OF4WD), TriCity Jeep Clubs (TCJC), and Central Ontario 4×4 Club.
There are benefits of joining a club, although it’s not necessary to be a part of one in order to enjoy trail riding. However, some trails are privately owned and can only be accessed by members of a particular club. Belonging to one of these clubs is ideal for those who need trail management and even liability insurance.
Meetups
It’s easy to find or start a meetup group for Toronto jeepers. Not only are there great meetup opportunities in the GTA itself, but in other parts of the world as well. Anyone who is interested in exploring various regions across the globe can join or arrange a meetup for fellow Ontario 4×4 driving enthusiasts. A 4WD meetup can be something as simple as two Jeepers getting together or a large group of four-wheel driving enthusiasts.
The Central Ontario 4×4 Club holds meetups throughout the year. In the summer months, members can participate in weekend campouts and trail rides. Even in winter months there are various social activities that allow members to stay in touch.
Events and Charities
There are many events held throughout the year for Jeep, truck, and/or SUV drivers. These events typically have sponsors and have rules regarding what kinds of vehicles are allowed. Sometimes camping opportunities are available.
Trailfest is a popular event held every year, during which only licensed and insured automobiles are permitted. There are a dozen trails available during the event, with ratings 1 – 8. Trails with ratings of 1-2 are suitable for new drivers, and offer little chance of vehicle damage.
OF4WD hosts regular events, such as the upcoming Newbie Runs, which are scheduled for May and July. These events are exclusively for new Jeep and other off-road vehicle drivers. There are no fees, although registration is required. Participants are responsible for their own food and fuel.
Jeep riding charity events are common in Toronto and other cities throughout Canada. The Brampton Area Jeep Association recently raised nearly $5,000 for the Mississauga Humane Society.
Other events held regularly in Ontario include Jeep Fest, Jeep Financing Canada, Jeep Jamboree and Go Topless Day.
