An Explorer 8.8-inch is a popular swap for Wranglers because it's almost exactly the same width as the stock Wrangler axles and thus requires no width modifications. The Explorers used the same wheel bolt pattern as a TJ & YJ Wranglers.
Ranger VS Explorer: The Rangers use a 28-spline 8.8-Inch axle on 4.0 Liter engine applications and a 31-spline axle on FX4 applications. All Explorer's are equipped with a 31-spline 8.8-Inch axle.
With the ARB Air Locker locking differential system, you can control your vehicle's on and off road performance from inside your Jeep with the push of a button. Unlike conventional automatic limited slip and locking differentials, that are always engaged, the air locker does not have any adverse affects on tires, drive line components or handling when "unlocked" for highway operation. This patented locking differential system is easy to use. The ARB system utilizes compressed air to smoothly engage a locking gear within a specially designed differential case.
